Auto Insurance Coverage
Auto
insurance is a necessity. Most states require that you at least
have liability insurance before you can get an auto license
plate, and the number of states that require auto insurance is growing. Even
though states require auto insurance to protect other drivers on
the motorways, auto insurance is not intended only to protect
others.
Insurance
serves as an instrument to help protect you in case of an unfortunate
incident occurring. This includes auto accidents, vandalism, theft,
acts of God like hail and tornados, and policies can even offer
you roadside assistance if your car breaks down or you run out of
gas.
There
are many different types of auto insurance. The most important part
of selecting a policy is figuring out what auto insurance policy
options you need and how much they will cost. Insurance agents
can be very helpful in finding a good auto insurance policy, but
some can also be misinformed. You owe it to yourself to understand
a policy and the definitions of the insurance terms on that policy.
Some
good rules of thumb to remember when selecting your auto insurance
policy coverage options are:
- Carry
enough insurance to replace your car if it is totaled in an accident.
- Carry
enough liability insurance to replace what you are most likely
to hit. If your live in a neighborhood where everyone has very
expensive cars, knowing that most accidents happen within five
miles of home, you know that you are more likely to be involved
in an auto accident with an expensive car. Adjust your coverage
accordingly.
- If
teenage drivers are on your policy, you might want to select
slightly higher coverages.
- Be
sure to co-ordinate your auto insurance policy with your homeowner's
insurance policy. You should get a substantial discount.
No
one is going to look out for you as much as you will. It is your
job to protect yourself and do research when buying auto insurance.
